In 1977 a Golden Record was launched into space aboard each of the two Voyager spacecraft, with a capsule containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth as a message to any extraterrestrial civilisation that might find it. One of the diagrams on the cover depicts Earth's location, by showing a 'map' that showing the location of our solar system in the Milky Way. This map uses the positions and pulse timing frequencies of 14 pulsars to help locate Earth
